Since then we've found that, when done right, video can convey the energy and emotion of a scene beyond simply what it looks like. More Than a Mountain: A Short Film on the Story of Saddleback

Filmed and produced by Maine Mountain Media, "More Than a Mountain" is a short film that follows the Saddleback comeback journey the resort’s vision for a vibrant future. A Note from Andy Shepard, CEO & General Manager: The story of Saddleback Mountain, in the historic high peaks and lakes district of Western Maine, is a story that has played itself out in communities across the Country; a rural community loses its largest employer and suffers from a predictable set of vicious cycles—outmigration of its workforce, a significant drop in housing valuations and tax base, and an equally devastating hit to the retail sector. The remarkably resilient communities of Rangeley and Oquossoc and the Saddleback mountain family suffered through five long years of false promises and false starts, and when a visionary impact fund (Arctaris Impact Fund) emerged, together they have chosen to rewrite the typical script. The result is an exciting future for both the mountain and the region—and a new model for economic development in rural communities. Coming off a successful first year in which we invested over $18 million, our plans are to dive into a host of new projects including a new lift, building a mid-mountain lodge that will define responsible development in an alpine environment, a new residence village, employee housing and a 5-megawatt solar farm. We’re excited about our future and want you to be a part of it.

September 2020 - Twin Villages Foodbank Farm's success is rooted in partnerships and strong support from the community. Although a few things are different this year with Covid, the farm is on target to grow 50,000 pounds of food to donate to Lincoln County food pantries, and to aggregate another 20,000 pounds from other growers in its food storage hub.

In Conservation A Single Tree Can Tell A Story: Birding at Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge

The avian fall migration at Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) offers an abundance of species that have been captured in the film In Conservation a Single Tree can Tell a Story: Birding at Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge through a partnership with Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust and Umbagog UWR. Umbagog NWR is at the heart of a Globally Important Bird Area, which spans over 5 million acres in the Western Maine Mountains. The ranges of elevation, hydrology, and mixed forest types make it the perfect rest over for hundreds of species flying south for the winter. Located on the Rangeley Lakes Birding Trail and Maine Birding Trail, Umbagog Lake is the southernmost of the Rangeley Lakes chain which flows together as the headwaters of the Androscoggin River. In Conservation a Single Tree can Tell a Story highlights the diversity of not only bird species but additionally habitat at the NWR. The beauty and natural resources of the Rangeley Region are on display and will be enjoyed by all ages.

Despite the many challenges we've all faced his year, there's still much to celebrate. With your help, we are accomplishing great things in the Damariscotta-Pemaquid region. This video highlights just a few: Connecting landscapes at Sherman Marsh in Newcastle, ongoing water quality programs, the extension of our A.D.A. accessible River Trail in Damariscotta, and finding new and creative ways to stay engaged with people of all ages through our education programs.
